This Week at Six Walls
Somebody Asked Nicely

We got our first feature request from a customer this week. Until now the feature list has been decided by one person and a long list of things that person would like to have, so this was a new experience, and a pleasant one. The request was a reasonable one: could the plugins save the user's own presets?

They could not. Each plugin came with a handful of factory presets and no way to add to them. This is a common plugin feature that I completely overlooked because it's something I generally don't do in my own workflow. This has been fixed in all four. At the bottom of the preset menu there is now a 'Save as user preset...' item. Set a name, press Enter, and your preset joins a new User section of the same menu, where it can be loaded, replaced, or deleted. It works in every format, on Windows and on a Mac.*

The Room needed a little extra care, because a preset for a reverb should include the room it was made in. It now remembers the room and the microphone along with the knobs. If a room has since gone missing, it keeps whichever one you have loaded instead of complaining about it.

The NanoFlux got a small gift of its own. Below Custom mode (100% on the Adjust knob), the Rate and Depth knobs used to sit there greyed out and unhelpful. They now turn to show what Adjust is doing at that moment. If you land on a sound you like at, say, eight o'clock, on the Adjust dial, clicking on either the Rate or Depth knob will take you straight to Custom mode, allowing you to tweak an out of the box sound. It is in the manual, under "Starting from Adjust", so it won't be a secret.

The factory preset lists also moved into submenus. That one is mostly preventative: a list that is a sensible length today stops being one once we add more presets and you add your own, so they are now grouped by category.

The new versions are The NanoFlux 1.0.1, The ThirtySix 1.2.4, The Room 1.1.5, and The Overheads 1.2.3. Already have them? The Installer will tell you.

* Presets are small files, one per preset, kept in %APPDATA%\Six Walls on Windows and in Library/Application Support/Six Walls on a Mac. If you want to back them up or move them to another machine, that is where they live.
